ProFoam – A new process for the foaming of thermoplastics

Principle of the ProFoam process (diagram: IKV)

For some applications, the foam injection moulding process can improve the product properties, for example by reducing the warpage tendency or lowering the weight of the moulded part. However, if the use of a chemical blowing agent is undesirable, the plant engineering becomes very costly and the process more complicated. This discourages many plastics converters from entering the field of foam injection moulding.

At the Institute of Plastics Processing, the ProFoam process has been developed. It aims to provide an easy-to-use, inexpensive process and plant technology for foam injection moulding.
