Best possible use of material potential
Exploiting the material potential of plastics as fully as possible is a key condition for establishing innovative plastics products profitably on the market. To fulfil that aim IKV’s department Part Design / Materials Technology is researching various solutions.
Focussed topics
- Virtual part design/CAE
- Joining technology
- Surface technology
Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) can be employed to select suitable materials, and the resultant part properties can be determined on a virtual basis. These simulations can then be used to optimise parts even before initial prototypes are available.
The focal points of virtual part design are material modelling, service life analyses, simulation of short-time and long-term behaviour, acoustic and crash behaviour, and the prediction of ageing.
By combining different parts into an overall system with the aid of joining and welding methods, or modifying surface properties by means of plasma technology, the functions of a plastic part can be selectively customised and enhanced, making allowance for production-engineering
and economic factors.
