Research Group 702
Research Group 702 has set itself the target of developing production processes for the manufacture of micro products via the liquid phase of polymers, metals and ceramics.
The Research Group will investigate, under micro-specific aspects, new process concepts for the manufacture of micro products having particularly good prospects in the area of micro technology.
Not only does the project set out to master the special challenges occurring in the micron range during the forming process, it also aims to use micro-specific phenomena to advantage for the forming. The Research Group will investigate in particular the following technologies:
- rapid ultrasonic plasticising of polymer melts,
- pre-compression of the melt in front of the cavity to provide better filling of the mould for plastic micro products,
- a casting unit for the capillary pressure die casting of metal micro parts,
- micro injection moulding with slow cooling and reduced oxidation damage, and
- two-component injection moulding of partially conductive micro-structured polymer moulds.
The Research Group comprises four institutes from the Universities of Aachen, Erlangen, Hanover and Karlsruhe, who, through their preliminary work, have known each other for many years and have been intensively involved in the processing of materials via a liquid phase and the characterisation down to micro dimensions.
