Lightweight construction through back-moulding

The aim of your work is to design an injection mould for hybrid lightweight components.

Mould technology | picture: IKV

Topic:
For the production of lightweight components through an integrated back-moulding process, a mould has to be designed that enables the positioning of tape inserts.

Workgroup:
The workgroup In-mould Technologies deals with the production of hybrid components by back-moulding. The research focuses on the bonding of thermoplastic materials with tapes, metals or wood via form-fitting and/or material-fitting connections.

Objective:
The aim of your work is the conceptual design of a variably constructed injection mould, taking into account the requirements placed on the mould design and functional elements by the back-moulding process.

Your tasks:

For a bachelor thesis you will work on the following tasks:

  • Knowledge development in the field of injection mould technology and the back injection process for hybrid components
  • Development and drafting of a mould concept that meets specific component and process requirements

For a master thesis you will work on the following tasks:

  • Knowledge development in the field of injection mould technology and the back-moulding process for hybrid components
  • Focus on the use of unidirectional tape inserts

Development, drafting and basic design of an injection mould that meets specific component and process requirements

Your benefits:

  • Independent work with intensive supervision
  • Work in a young and motivated team
  • Individual coordination of tasks and time frame
  • Acquisition of technical knowledge as well as skills in scientific work and writing
  • Contact with industrial partners in the field of mould design
  • Immediate start possible

Your profil:

  • You are studying in the technical or scientific field, for example mechanical engineering, material sciences etc.
  • You are keen to work on plastics technology and practice-relevant issues.
  • You are independent and motivated.
