Thermoplastic fibre-reinforced plastics (TP-FRP) have become increasingly important in recent years due to their recyclability, their economical processing methods as well as their eased processability. While pre-impregnated sheets are already being used on an industrial scale, unidirectional TP-FRP (UD-tapes) are increasingly becoming the focus of industry. Compared to pre-impregnated sheets UD-tapes offer additional economic and ecological advantages due to a close-contour laminate design with reduced waste and a local thickness and fibre orientation adaption with regards to the load case. In recent years new processes for UD-tape production and post-processing have been developed. For a broad industrial application, however, there is still a lack of confidence in this new class of semi-finished products, since fundamental correlations between manufacturing parameters, UD-tape quality, post-processing parameters and the resulting laminate/component quality are missing.
The symposium will present challenges, developments and solutions along the value chain of UD-tape based components. Topics such as UD-tape production, UD-tape post-processing (e.g. tape laying and winding processes), forming and functionalization of UD-tape based laminates as well as possible applications will be discussed. Researchers, material suppliers, processors, machine manufacture and end user have the opportunity to inform themselves about material developments, suitable machine equipment and new use cases as well as current research activities and discuss the presented solutions with experts.
