Around 120 participants from 15 countries ensured a full house at the Aachen Technology Center and a close seating in the auditorium – unaccustomed after two years of keeping safe distances due to the Corona pandemic. Nevertheless, no one had to fear infection, as every participant had to present a negative Corona test, which could also be taken directly on site before the start of the event.
The organizers, Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT and Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, together with the Institute for Plastics Processing in Industry and Craft at RWTH Aachen University IKV, had assembled an inspiring programme of presentations, covering the possibilities for manufacturing and the application potential of optical plastic products. 20 speakers from the industry highlighted current developments and trends from a manufacturing and application perspective, with a focus on the following topics:
- New and conventional materials
- Tool and mould making
- Replication technologies
- Metrology/Quality/Digitization
- Optical Systems
The chance for professional exchange was gladly seized during the breaks. The company exhibition accompanying the conference also provided ample opportunity for inspiring discussions. At the end of the first day, participants were able to obtain information on new developments in research on site at the participating research institutes and get an idea of their potential and capabilities during a tour of the pilot plants and laboratories. A champagne reception at Innolite company and an industrial pitch session during the joint dinner provided additional opportunities for networking.
