Philipp Surray received a third rank in the category "Technology" for his innovation "Dry Demoulding". His new permanent mould coating enables PUR parts to be removed from the moulds without any residue of release agents.
The Industry Innovation Award was presented on 13 September 2022 as part of the 21st International FSK Specialist Conference on Foamed Plastics and Polyurethanes 2022 of the Specialist Association Foamed Plastics and Polyurethanes (Fachverband Schaumkunststoffe und Polyurethane e.V., FSK) in Dortmund, Germany. The speaker of the FSK Converter Network, Udo Storck, Masterfoam GmbH, chaired the award ceremony during which the winners of the FSK Innovation Award presented their innovations to the conference participants. In the run-up to the event, a neutral jury of experts had reviewed all the applications and then determined the rankings.
About the Award
The FSK Innovation Award Foamed Plastics and Polyurethanes has been awarded by the German FSK for more than 25 years. The award is to primarily promote young talent in the industry, but also to encourage people to submit new ideas, concepts and developments. The award is open to applications from students, young professionals but also companies who want to present their innovative ideas in foam plastics or polyurethanes. Every year, the FSK announces an innovation award in the categories "Technology" and "Design and Creation" for foam plastics and polyurethanes respectively. Besides, FSK introduced the new category “Sustainability” in 2022, acknowledging the political development and social demand for a rethink on the topic.

1st rank: "Technology" category: Detlef Mies (Covestro Deutschland AG) for developing and testing cheaper and more efficient heliostats with polyurethane for CSP plants.
2nd rank: "Technology/Design and Creation" category: Peter Mechtold (RELAX YOUR LIFE) for the world's first soft bathtub made of foam.
3rd rank: "Sustainability" category: Dipl.-Ing. Christoph Mack (Fraunhofer-Institut für Chemische Technologie ICT) and Dr Axel Kauffmann (Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg DHBW Karlsruhe) for the development of high-quality lightweight pallets based on foamed biopolymers.
