This conference, organised by the Institute for Plastics Processing (IKV) in Industry and Craft at RWTH Aachen University on 25 – 26 June in Aachen, is dedicated to the processing of organic rubbers and silicone rubbers. These two topics will be dealt with in parallel sessions. Two moderators will be guiding the delegates through the event: Dr. Gerard Nijman, KrausMaffei Berstorff, will chair the organic rubber session, and Oliver Franssen, Momentive Performance Materials, the silicone rubber session.

Each session will consist of eleven presentations from experts from industry and IKV, who will talk about the latest developments in practice and research. They will cover the overriding aspects of future technologies, material behaviour, processing and simulation. Over and above that, seven plenary papers from members of the industry will provide additional impulses for the rubber segment. A visit to IKV's extrusion and rubber technology pilot plants and laboratories plus a tour of the Centre for Plastics Analysis and Testing will complement the IKV presentations by taking a look at the practical side.

For the plenary papers, the speakers will come from the following companies: Adamos, Arlanxeo Netherlands, ContiTech, Dr. Gupta Verlag, Engel Austria, HF Mixing Group and TA Instruments. For the organic rubber session, Arlanxeo Deutschland, Freudenberg Sealing Technologies, Hexpol, KraussMaffei Berstorff, Lanxess, MDC Engineering, OR.P. Stampi and simcon kunststofftechnische Software have promised to attend.

For the silicone rubber session, Aptiv Services, Dow Silicones, Dräger Medical, Elmet Elastomere, Momentive Performance Materials, Nexus Elastomer Systems, Rado Gummi, R.E.T., Sigma Engineering and Sterne SAS will all send speakers.

The scientists from IKV will talk about the Institute's current research on rubber technology, focusing on the following topics: Influence of compounds on process parameters and rubber properties, digitalisation in the continuous vulcanisation process, material models relating to the behaviour of TPE, and model calibration for screw design in a silicone rubber extruder.

IKV organises this conference for the rubber industry every two years. Apart from the technical discussions, the many breaks, the evening dinner on the first day and the tours of the Institute's facilities offer further opportunities for experts to exchange ideas and experience. For the first time, the presentations at this year's event will be in English
