Dr.-Ing. Martin Facklam

Dr.-Ing. Martin Facklam, born 1982, is a member of the Executive Board and Managing Director of the Training and Further Education Department at the Institute for Plastics Processing (IKV) in Industry and Trade at RWTH Aachen University. Previously, he worked at the IKV as head of the Extrusion and Rubber Technology Department and group leader for rubber technology. As a research assistant, he was responsible for the "Joining Technology, Ultrasonic Welding & Simulation" work area at the IKV.

He successfully completed his doctoral studies to become a doctor of engineering (Dr.-Ing.) at the Rheinisch-Westfälisch Technische Hochschule Aachen with a dissertation on "Welding of thermally highly conductive thermoplastics using the example of graphite composites". Previously, he had successfully completed his studies in mechanical engineering in the professional field of plastics engineering with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and his studies in plastics engineering with a Master of Science (M.Sc.).

Before his academic career, Dr Facklam trained as a roofer at WK Bedachungen Krawinkel GmbH & Co. KG, Krefeld, and completed his training with a journeyman's certificate.

Today, Dr. Facklam serves on the following committees for the IKV: 

  • Since 05/2022 Deputy chairman of DVS working group W4 "Joining of plastics".
  • Since 04/2022 Chairman of the DVS Working Group W 4.6 "Training and Testing".
