KAP at Polymer Testing World Expo 2021

The Centre for Analysis and Testing of Plastics (KAP) at IKV presented its service portfolio at the Polymer Testing World Expo 2021, Europe's leading specialist event for polymer testing. Scientists and professionals from across the industry came together at the Messe Essen exhibition centre to discuss the latest developments in polymer testing from 29 to 30 September 2021.

The Centre for Analysis and Testing of Plastics (KAP) offers a wide range of possibilities for testing the mechanical, physical, chemical and morphological properties of plastics – and thus provides industry partners with structured and comprehensive damage management in the event of problems. This extensive range of services was also reflected at the trade fair stand: examples of typical cases of damage from a wide variety of industries illustrated the diversity of damage patterns and the respective solution approaches from the KAP.

One topic in particular dominated the discussions with the visitors at the stand: circular economy and the question of how testing and analysis options may be used beneficially in this context. The KAP has special expertise in this area, as the plastics circular economy is one of the four key topics of research at IKV.

In addition to the presentations at the stand, the KAP enriched the event with a technical lecture on 30 September: Christoph Zekorn, long-time head of microscopy at the KAP, spoke in his lecture "Failure analysis on plastic products – the importance of instrumental analysis" about the general procedure for failure analysis and the respective influencing factors. He also used examples to explain the importance of instrumental analysis for damage analysis on plastic products.

Both the conference and the exhibition were free to visitors and were held in conjunction with Compounding World Expo, Polymer Extrusion World Expo and Plastics Recycling World Expo.
